Training Requirement Updates
Planned update to PMP training hour requirements (effective late Q4 2026)
To apply for the PMP, you need 35 hours of project management training. These hours can come from any eligible course or provider; you’re not required to use a specific one. Training can be live (in-person or virtual, taught by an instructor) or on-demand.
Starting in late Q4 2026, PMI is updating PMP live training eligibility requirements. This helps us ensure consistent, quality preparation worldwide.
If you earn PMP training hours through a live class, they will be eligible only if the course is delivered by a:
- PMI Authorized Training Partner (ATP) [such as My PM Training LLC] or
- China Registered Education Provider (REP) or
- Eligible, accredited academic program (including PMI Global Accreditation Center accredited programs)
Exam Updates
1. Content and Focus Areas
- Adds topics like AI, sustainability and stakeholder engagement
- Shifts focus more to outcomes and value
2. Domains
- Rebalanced exam weighting:
- People (42% → 33%)
- Process (50% → 41%)
- Business Environment (8% → 26%)
- Balances leadership, technical and strategic skills
3. Approach
- Covers predictive and agile methods, and hybrid applications
- Greater emphasis on adaptive, real-world project dynamics
4. Eligibility
- Aligns globally across degrees, apprenticeships and training programs
- Experience: 3–5 years
- Eligibility period: extended to 10 years

5. Exam Experience
- 180 questions, 240 minutes
- More interactive and scenario-based
- Reflects real project environments
4. Eligibility
- Aligns globally across degrees, apprenticeships and training programs
- Experience: 3–5 years
- Eligibility period: extended to 10 years
